i'm a broken spoke
but this wagon keeps rolling on
i keep getting knocked around
i keep getting dust upon my splintered ends
i've got nobody to mend me
or throw me away
whoever's riding that wagon
just don't care enough to say
change that wheel
put it out of it's misery
we got places to
got a whole lot of road left to travel yet
and this ol' thing right here
it just ain't cuttin it.
change that wheel and let's be done with it
well i used to be strong and sturdy
but this wagon carries an awful weight
and i dare say it drove me to breakin
inside of me
is a wheel wanting to be free
to roll on down the road
without this heavy load
i can't remember just what did me in
it could've been
the dusty back roads of texas or
the potholes down in new orleans
and i can't surely say
that it wasn't the cold spring roads of maine
and all them roads back home in st. louie
are so messed up that they run right through me
it's about to do me in
change that wheel
put me out of my misery
we got places to
got a whole lot of road left to travel yet
and this ol' thing right here
it just ain't cuttin it.
change that wheel and let's be done with it
